In the 90s most of us fell victim to the pencil thin brows that were 100% in style and on par with the “look” we all wanted. The idea of a thicker fluffy brow was unheard of in the 90s. The truth about cosmetics and fashion is that it’s always changing unbeknownst to us. We’re always trying to follow the latest trend the latest fashion and the latest look. Permanent makeup has been a part of the cosmetic industry for decades. It’s always evolving and it’s always changing styles or changing the types of inks that we use are changing and it’s hard to keep up with the industry sometimes. Imagine yourself in 1990 getting your eyebrows tattooed to follow the pencil thin trend. We recently went through a trend where the bigger thicker browse that measure about an inch thick. And we’re narrow in the front giving the illusion of the popped brow. This look had amazing qualities on women but it Passed really fast…why? A lot of people realized how the perfectly symmetrical look made. The rest of their face looked crooked, forcing themselves to overcompensate. Their facial structure during pictures. Giving the duck face. It made their eyebrows look higher. It made their eyebrows look even. And the facial symmetry made the face look thinner. Was this look something that everyone should have? There are some cosmetic places that will only do eyebrows following a certain pattern. It’s basically a stamp, and everyone follows that same look. As a permanent makeup artist. I like to follow what my clients are looking for there are some clients who will come in looking for a cosmetic approach and then there are some that just want a natural look they just amplifies the brow bone where it already exists. Knowing what you want ahead of time. Will save you years of frustration. Permanent makeup needs to be thought of as a Tattoo. Because although it will fade out. The initial outline can sometimes always be there without a removal clients are forced to get what they get and this is why doing some research into your artist is very important. Don’t be scared to ask questions. It’s always easier to add than it is to take away and if your artist doesn’t want to answer any of your questions just remember, there are a lot of of us out there that are more than happy to help you with your eyebrow journey. There have been times in my career that I have not been able to work with clients based on the type of browse that they want and this is why I love following other local permanent makeup artist work because I can make the recommendation of somebody else local that may be able to assist them in their permanent make up journey. I am not a competitive person by nature. I believe that it’s important to cultivate those relationships with other local business owners. There are many artists available in Saskatoon they can achieve a very natural hyperrealistic eyebrow and they are award-winning artists.
The biggest thing you need to look out for when it comes to permanent makeup is making sure that you know what you’re getting ahead of time. A solid thick powder brow is not a natural looking brow, it has more of a cosmetic look to it. There are softer more natural ways to go about getting Powder browse without them being thick, Angry Birds looking type eyebrows. This is where your artist should show you differences between the different types of brows that would look good on you.
